Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team hosted the Warriors from William Jessup University on Friday, April 6. It was a rough day for Red Hawks’ pitching staff, as they just couldn't do anything about the potent Warrior offense. The Red Hawks found themselves seven runs behind when the final out was made; they lost 10-3.
The Red Hawks sent Hayley Rodriguez to pitch against on Warrior starter Emily Buhrkuhl. The Warrior drew first blood, scoring twice in the top of the second inning. Corinne Alexander scored a run for Simpson in the bottom half of the frame with her solo home run. The Warriors added three more in the fourth inning to extend their lead to four runs. The Red Hawks came back with two of their own in the fourth, when Aleisha Brown scored on a Chelsea Dunn fielder's choice and then Brooke Quaife scored later in the inning on a Nicki Feuerbach single to make the score 5-3 Warriors. Then the Warriors added some insurance runs in sixth, when they scored for four more runs and another run in the seventh to make the final score 10-3 Warriors.
Rodriguez got the loss for the Red Hawks, as she gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work. Buhrkuhl earned the win, pitching a complete game. She allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Feuerbach was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Dunn and Alexander were both 1-for3 with an RBI each.
The Red Hawks now fall to 15-21 on the season and 2-2 in the Cal Pac. They take on the Warriors in a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday, April 7.
