Red Hawks reverse course and take two from William Jessup

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team took to the field on Saturday, April 7, in a doubleheader against the Warriors from William Jessup. Both games were tightly contested, but the Red Hawks won both games. They won game one 10-8 and game two 7-6.
Morgan Davis was on the mound for the Red Hawks in game one, taking on Warrior starter Andrea Lutz. The Red Hawks opened up an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning on a Nicki Feuerbach two-RBI double. The Warriors took the lead in the third inning, when Brittany Lamar hit a home run to put William Jessup up 4-2. The Red Hawks quickly responded in the bottom of the third and took back the lead back 5-4. The inning was highlighted by a Chelsea Dunn home run. The Red Hawks scored four times in the fifth inning and then once in the sixth to make the score 10-4. The Warriors put some pressure on the Red Hawks, as the scored four runs in the seventh, but their comeback fell two runs short, as the Red Hawks won 10-8. Davis earned the win for the Red Hawks, allowing eight runs on eight hits in seven innings of work. Lutz was the loser, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits in six innings. Feuerbach was 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Valerie Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with two RBI, and pinch-hitter Alexis Angier went 1-for-1 with two RBI.
In game two, the Red Hawks sent Hayley Rodriguez to the mound to take on Emily Burkuhl. The Warriors scored twice in the first to take the lead early. The Red Hawks scored a run in the bottom of the first on a Davis home run. Feuerbach scored the tying run in the second when Valerie Rodriguez grounded out to make it 2-2 after two innings. The Warriors continued their good offense with three runs in the top of the third, before the Red Hawks came back with five runs, including two home runs. Jillian Goulart and Corinne Alexander both hit a homer to bring the score to 7-5 Red Hawks. William Jessup added another run in the fourth to make it 7-6, but the Red Hawks held on for the close win. Rodriguez earned the win, allowing six runs on 10 hits in seven innings. Buhrhuhl got the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits in six innings of work. Alexander was 3-for-3 with a home run, and Goulart was 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
The Red Hawks improve their record to 17-21 and 4-2 in the Cal Pac. They will host the Oaks from Menlo College on Monday, April 9, at 3 p.m.
