Simpson earns first win of the season

REDDING, Calif. - The Lady Red Hawks volleyball team earned their first win of the season on Monday, Aug. 27, when they beat the Firestorm from Arizona Christian in three sets. It was another close match for the Red Hawks, but they were able to come from behind in all three sets to win 26-24, 25-23, 30-28.
The first set, both teams kept it close and neither team was able to gain a significant lead. The Red Hawks were able to fight off two Firestorm set points to win the set 26-24. In the second set, the Firestorm led 16-10 before the Red Hawks came storming back to tie it at 22. They eventually won 25-23. The Red Hawks came from behind again in the third set and led 22-16 until the Firestorm came back to tie it at 24. The Red Hawks held on in the set to win 30-28, giving them their first win of the season and the first win in new head coach Amanda Visconti's Simpson career.
The Red Hawks were led by outside hitter Audrey Green, who had 14 kills and 12 digs. Kirsten Duren finished the match with 21 digs and two service aces. Sarah Loogman had eight kills and two aces, while Kelly Tycksen contributed 33 assists and five aces.
The Red Hawks’ record now moves to 1-3 on the season. They will be in action again on Tuesday, Aug. 28, in Phoenix, Ariz., when they take on Embry-Riddle at 7:30 p.m.
