Simpson goes winless at William Jessup Tournaments

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Lady Red Hawks volleyball team continued their participation in the William Jessup Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8, playing in two matches. The first match was against Embry-Riddle, which the Red Hawks lost in three sets (19-25, 21-25, 24-26); and the second match against Westmont, which the Red Hawks also lost in three sets (17-25, 14-25, 14-25).

In the first set against Embry-Riddle, the Red Hawks lad by as many as five points and even held a 19-17 lead before Embry-Riddle would win the next eight points to take the set 26-19. In the second set, the Red Hawks had a slim lead early before Embry-Riddle pulled away and hold on to their lead with a 25-21 victory. In the third set, Embry-Riddle came from behind again to take the set and the match.

Sarah Loogman had 12 kills in the match, and Kelly Tycksen added 33 assists for the Red Hawks. Mahlet Lee had a game high 17 kills to lead Embry-Riddle to victory.

In the second match of the day, Westmont controlled the whole match with long runs of scoring in all three sets. The Red Hawks never really had a chance to get into a rhythm, and Westmont cruised to an easy victory.

Loogman led the Red Hawks with 10 kills, and Audrey Green added eight more in the losing effort for the Red Hawks. Westmont was led by Nichole Miller’s nine kills.

The Red Hawks drop to 1-7 on the season. They will next be in action on Monday, Sept. 17, when the travel to Eugene, Ore., to take on the Beacons from Northwest Christian University at 7 p.m.
