REDDING, Calif. - California Pacific Conference regular season champion Menlo College placed three players on the 2011 Cal Pac all-conference women's basketball team, which was announced on Wednesday, Feb. 22, by Commissioner Don Ott.
Menlo, who won the conference's regular season championship with an 8-2 record in conference play, headlines the honor list with senior Erika Garcia, junior Lauren Adamek and freshman Jolise Limcaco. Holy Names and Simpson added two members from their teams to the first team selections. Holy Names added junior Britney Potestio and sophomore Soulijah Evans; and Simpson added senior Bekah Eppler and junior Ariassa Wilson. Both Pacific Union and William Jessup added one player to the first team. The Pioneers' Lara Canders and the Warriors' Cassie Davidson both made the team.
CSU Maritime Academy senior Alexsis Brown, who is NAIA Division II women's basketball's leading scorer with 24 points per game, captured the conference's Player of the Year honor with an unanimous vote. She is also the Keelhaulers' lone first team choice. Menlo coach Shannon Osborne takes home the Coach of the Year honor.
For the second consecutive year, the league's assist leader has been named the conference's Defender of the Year. This year that honor went to Danika Potestio of Holy Names. William Jessup's Taylor Borba, who made the conference's second team, was named Newcomer of the Year. Limcaco of Menlo is the Freshman of the Year.
"It has been a thrilling year for our women's basketball teams, and these student-athletes helped raise the caliber of competition another notch,” said Ott. “They are to be congratulated as they head into tournament play for a shot at the national championships."
