Sheets accepts coaching position at University of Maine

ORONO, Maine. - Simpson University assistant women’s basketball coach Jon Sheets has accepted an assistant coaching position at his alma matter, the University of Maine. University of Maine men's basketball head coach Ted Woodward announced the addition of the former Black Bear to his staff as an assistant coach.

"Jon will be a wonderful addition to our staff and I am thrilled he decided to join us," said Woodward. "Jon was a great player and leader in our program, and we always felt he was a coach-on-the-floor who had a great feel for the game and loved hard work. He is a man of great character, is a tremendous teacher, and will do a great job leading the young men in our program to great success both on and off the court. We are excited to have him join our coaching staff!"

Sheets, University of Maine class of 2007, played for the Black Bears from 2005-2007. During the 2006-2007 season, he led the team with 3.1 assists per game while making the sixth-most 3-pointers in a season with 79. His 145 career 3-pointers put him eighth in program history.

Since graduating from Maine with a degree in communications, Sheets has played for Athletes in Action and professionally in Israel for the Kalandia Club.

Sheets came back to Maine after serving as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team at Simpson University in California.
