Simpson battles hard against Holy Names
Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team was in action on Thursday, Feb. 9, against the Hawks from Holy Names University. It was close throughout the entire game, but the Red Hawks lost 75-65.
The first half saw the Hawks jump out to a 10-point lead. The Red Hawks weren’t able to make a major dent in that lead, and Holy Names took an eight-point lead into the half.
In the second half, the Red Hawks came storming back on the great play of Bekah Eppler. However, whenever the Red Hawks were on the verge of taking the lead, Brittany Potestio hit a huge shot stopping the momentum from fully shifting in the Red Hawks’ favor. Late in the half, the Hawks seized control of the game and slowly built their lead; they eventually won by 10 points (75-65).
The Red Hawks were led by Eppler's 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Nichole Jones and Ariassa Wilson both added 12. Potestio scored 21 points for Holy Names, and Renique Fitzpatrick added 14 in the winning effort.
The Red Hawks’ record falls to 9-16 on the season and 3-5 in the Cal Pac. Up next for the Red Hawks is a huge game against rivals William Jessup University at home on Saturday, Fed 11, at 5:30. The result of this game will be big in determining the seeding in the season-ending Cal Pac tournament.
