Simpson loses another close conference game

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team was looking for their first conference win on Thursday, Jan. 12 home conference game of the season as they hosted the Keelhaulers from CSU Maritime. The game was a hard fought by both teams and could have gone either way but it was the Keelhaulers who pulled it out in the end winning 77-72.
In the first half, neither team was able to gain control of the game. The half saw eight ties and five lead changes. Both teams led by six at different points. It was the Keelhaulers who led 39-36 at the break. Kelly Stephens led the way for the Keelhaulers in the half with her 11 points. As for the Red Hawks, it was Nichole Jones who led the team with eight points.
The second half started out with the Red Hawks storming out to take an early lead, but the Keelhaulers came right back. Five points was as large as the lead got in the half with the Red Hawks having some excellent chances that would end up being in vain as the Keelhaulers pulled out 77-72 victory.
Alexsis Brown led all scorers with 26 points for the Keelhaulers. Stephens finished with 16 while Sabrina Domingo finished the night with 15 points. For the Red Hawks, Bekah Eppler led the way with 19 points. Jones and Kaila Smith were the only other two Red Hawks in double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.
The loss drops the Red Hawks season record to 4-12 and 0-2 in the Cal Pac. They will look to get back on track on Saturday, Jan. 14 when they take on the Hawks from Holy Names at 2 p.m.
