Aaserude leads Red Hawks to victory over Eagles

KIRKLAND, Ore. - Tiffany Aaserude scored a game high 26 points to lead the Red Hawks women's basketball team to victory on Friday, Nov. 16. Simpson beat the Eagles from Northwest University 83-79.

The Red Hawks started the game by hitting 18 of their 33 shots (54.5%) in the first half, including 5-of-8 from beyond the three point line. With all of the excellent shooting in the half, the Red Hawks took a 47-34 point lead into the half time break. Freshman Madison Cox led the Red Hawks in the half with 12 points, going 5-of-7 from the field, while Ariassa Wilson added 11 points.

In the second half, the Eagles cut the lead down to five points before the Red Hawks went on a 7-0 run to make the score 64-52 with 10:43 to play. The Eagles went on a run of their own to cut the lead down to three points with 5:47 to play. Simpson fought off every attempt that the Eagles made to take the lead. The Red Hawks hit all six of their free throws down the stretch to earn the 83-79 victory.

Cox finished the game with 18 points and eight rebounds. Nichole Jones added 15 points, 10 steals, and seven rebounds. Wilson finished with 13 points to along with nine assists. Aaserude added four steals and four rebounds to her 26 points.

Sanda Milovic led the Eagles with 18 points in the loss.

The Red Hawks bring their record to 2-2 and will be in action on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when they host the Cavaliers from Concordia University-Portland at 6 p.m.
