Red Hawks lose first game of the new year to OIT

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team kicked off the new year with a road trip to Klamath Falls to take on the Owls from Oregon Tech on Monday, Jan. 2. The Red Hawks were looking to avenge a loss they suffered against the Owls earlier this season on November 15. However, this contest would not turn out the way the Red Hawks wanted as they dropped the game 89-57.

The Red Hawks were able to keep the Owls within touching distance as they were within 10 points with 5:18 to play in the half. Unfortunately, the Red Hawks were dealt a big blow when Bekah Eppler was tagged with her third foul with 4:32 to go in the half. The Owls took advantage of Eppler's absence and extended their lead to 19 points by going on a 12-3 run to close out the half with the score 44-25. The Owls were led by Jazzy McDaniel who had 10 points and four rebounds. Kassi Conditt added nine points for the Owls, and Morgan Hofman contributed eight points. The Owls shot 48.4 percent from the field in the half. Eppler was the leading scorer in the half for Simpson with 10 points.

In the second half, the Owls continued their blistering shooting, improving their shooting percentage in the second half by going 50 percent from the field. The Owls did not even leave a window of opportunity for the Red Hawks to mount a comeback. They led by as many as 41 in the half and coast to a comfortable 32-point victory.

Conditt led all scorers with 19 points and eight rebounds. McDaniel finished with 15, and Andrea Albright and Carrie Thibault were also in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. In fact, all but one of the Owls players scored in the winning effort. As for the Red Hawks, Eppler led the way with 17 points with Ariassa Wilson adding 14 and Nichole Jones putting in 10 for the Red Hawks.

The Red Hawks’ overall record falls to 4-12 on the season. They kick off their California Pacific Conference schedule on Thursday, Jan. 5 when they travel to Atherton, Calif., to take on the Menlo College Oaks at 5 p.m.
