Simpson beats OIT in overtime

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team were in action for the second day in a row on Saturday, Nov. 10, when they took on the Owls from Oregon Tech at Warrior Arena in Rocklin. The Red Hawks won a thrilling overtime game 62-61.
Tiffany Aaserude got the Red Hawks off to a good start, hitting a three pointer to open the scoring in the game. The Owls kept the game close, as the teams were tied at 13-13 with just under 12 minutes to play in the half. At that point in the game, the Owls took control and slowly built a small lead to take into the half. Colleen Hunt led the charge for the Owls, scoring seven points in the half. The Owls took a 27-19 lead into the half time break.
The Owls opened their lead up to 11 points in the early moments of the second half, but the Red Hawks stormed back by going on a 18-7 run to erase the Owl lead. Kaila Smith hit a free throw to tie the game up a 37-37. The Owls regained a five-point with 3:15 to play, but Ariassa Wilson hit a three with 20 seconds left to cut the lead to one point. She then hit the shot which sent the game into overtime as time expired in regulation with the score tied at 52-52.
In the overtime period, the Owls seemed to have control, as Nicole Aboumrad hit two free throw with 1:43 to play in the half to give the Owls a 61-55 lead. On the next trip down the floor, the Red Hawks’ Bianca Padilla hit a three to cut the lead in half. Then after a miss on the Owls’ end, Nichole Jones scored in the paint to cut the lead to 61-60 with 57 seconds remaining. Kassi Conditt missed a three-point attempt, setting up Wilson to play hero again as she hit the game winner with 10 seconds remaining to give the Red Hawks the 62-61 win.
Wilson finished the game with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Smith also had a double-double consisting of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jones led the Red Hawks in scoring with 13 points.
The Owls were led by Aboumrad, who had 13 points. Karissa Dixon scored 12 points and snatched 11 rebounds, and Conditt scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
