Second half shooting struggles hamper Simpson against SOU

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team were in action on Saturday, Dec. 8, when they hosted the Raiders from Southern Oregon University. The Raiders capitalized on some hot shooting in the second half to coast to a comfortable 92-60 victory.

The first half was close, as the teams traded leads multiple times. Tiffany Aaserude scored 11 points in the half for the Red Hawks. Melissa Sweat led the Raiders with 16 points in the half. The Red Hawks’ largest lead was four points, and the largest lead for the Raiders was enjoyed at the break when they led by six (43-37).

In the second half, the Raiders started out with a 20-4 run, again led by Sweat. The Raiders continued their hot shooting, going 20-for-40 from the field in the half. They were also aided by some ice cold shooting from the Red Hawks, who only managed to go 6-of-31 (19.4 percent). The Raiders’ lead grew to as many as 33 points before they eventually won by 32 points (92-60).

Sweat finished with 27 points and seven rebounds in the win for the Raiders. Allison Gida added 18 points and seven rebounds.

Nichole Jones led the Red Hawks with 21 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Aaserude finished with 16 points in loss.
