ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team traveled to take on the Warriors from William Jessup on Thursday, Jan. 19. The Red Hawks earned their first win in the Cal Pac; they won 73-51.
The Red Hawks jumped out early in the half to take a lead, which grew to as many as 15 points. The Red Hawks forced 18 turnovers in the half and held the Warriors to just 28 percent shooting from the field. Bekah Eppler was the high scorer in the half with 12 points for the Red Hawks. The Red Hawks led by 13 at the break (34-21).
The second half was more of the same from the Red Hawks. They extended their lead, and the Warriors were never really in it in the second half. The Red Hawks’ largest lead of the night was 27 points. They eventually ended up winning the game by 22 points (73-51). The Warriors continued to struggle from the field, finishing the night shooting just 28.4 percent compared to the Red Hawks 41.1 percent.
Charissa Murakami led all Red Hawks with 20 points on the night. Ariassa Wilson finished with 16 points, and Eppler added 14 points. Ayana MacShate had a big night, scoring seven points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The Warriors only had one player in double figures. Cassie Davidson had 16 points for the Warriors in the losing effort.
The win improves the Red Hawks season record to 5-13 on the season and 1-3 in the Cal Pac. They take on the Banana Slugs from UC Santa Cruz at home in a non-conference match up on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m.
