Simpson loses Homecoming game to conference rival

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team was in action on Saturday, Feb. 10, against the Warriors from William Jessup University. This game was Homecoming for Simpson. The Red Hawks lost a 60-54 overtime heartbreaker to the Warriors.

The first half saw the Red Hawks and the Warriors trade baskets most of the way. The Red Hawks held a slight advantage over the Warriors 25-22. The Red Hawks and the Warriors both struggled to shoot as both were under 30 percent for the half.

In the second half, the Red Hawks opened up a seven-point lead. Bekah Eppler hit some big shots to give Simpson a 47-40 lead with 6:40 to play in the game. The Warriors chipped away at the lead, and Taylor Borba finally tied it up with 54.5 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In overtime, Ariassa Wilson opened up the scoring with two free throws to take back the lead for Simpson. Borba hit two big free throws to put the game out of reach late in overtime. The Warriors outscored the Red Hawks 8-2 in the extra period to win by six (60-54).

Eppler finished with 13 for the Red Hawks, while Wilson added 10. Borba led the Warriors with 14 and Viola had 11 points.

The Red Hawks fall to 9-18 on the season and 3-7 in the Cal Pac. They will host the Pioneers from Pacific Union in their last home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 6:30 p.m.
