Simpson beats conference rival in first round of playoffs

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team in action on Wednesday, Feb. 22, against the William Jessup Warriors in the quarterfinals of the Cal Pac Tournament. The No. 4 Red Hawks hosted the No. 5 Warriors. The Red Hawks won the game by 15 points (66-51).
The Warriors jumped out to a 9-3 lead five minutes into the first half. The Red Hawks came storming back and took the lead with 10:03 to play. Bekah Eppler hit a three, making it 14-13. After that, the teams exchanged baskets until about one minute to play. The Red Hawks were able stretch out a lead when Ariassa Wilson hit a three, Kaity Hahn made a two, and Nichole Jones hit four straight free throws to make it a seven-point advantage at the break for the Red Hawks (32-25). Eppler had nine points and seven rebounds in the half, with Wilson scoring seven and grabbing seven boards. Taylor Borba led the way for the Warriors with eight points.
The Red Hawks went on a run at the beginning of the second half, and they extended their lead to nine points with 15:35 to play when Hahn hit a three. The Warriors kept the game reasonably close until around two minutes to play. Eppler hit a three, which put the Red Hawks up 13 points. They tacked on two more to the lead and finished 15-point victors (66-51).
Eppler, who was just named to the All-Cal Pac first team, finished the night with 21 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists. Wilson, also named to the All-Cal Pac first team, added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Jones was also in double figures with 12 points. The Warriors high scorer was Borba with 18 points. The only other Warrior in double figures was Alexandria Westbrook who had 10 points.
The win puts the Lady Red Hawks in the semi-finals on Friday, Feb. 24. They face No. 1 Menlo College in Atherton, Calif., at 7:30 p.m.
