REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team took on the Wolves from Walla Walla University on Monday, Feb. 6. Just the night before, the Red Hawks beat the Wolves by 39 points. Tonight was no different as the Red Hawks cruised for a comfortable 43-point victory (82-39). It was a good two game stretch for the Red Hawks because they scored 185 points.
The first half saw the both teams trading baskets. The Wolves led at one point, something that they failed to do in yesterday's contest. The score was tied at 14 with 12:36 to play in the half. After that point, the Red Hawks caught fire and finished the half on a 34-5 run taking a 28-point lead into the break (48-20). The Red Hawks benefited from some great defense with 18 steals. The Wolves turned it over a total of 21 times. Nichole Jones led the Red Hawk offense with 13 points.
The second half saw the Red Hawks extend their lead to as many as 43 points, which was the final margin (82-39). Charissa Murakami led all scorers on the night with 16 points. Jones finished the night with 15 points, five steals and five assists. Crystal Nybo had seven points, 10 rebounds and six steals, while Tiffany Aaserude was in double figures with 14 points. The Wolves had two players in double figures. Abbey Manzano had 11 and Johanna Uribe had 10 points.
The win improves the Red Hawks’ record to 9-15. They host the Hawks from Holy Names University on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m. Earlier this season, Holy Names was able to take care of the Red Hawks 93-75. The Red Hawks will be looking to avenge this loss.
