Lady Red Hawks dominate Walla Walla

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team in action on Sunday, Feb. 5 in a non-conference game against the Wolves from Walla Walla University. The game was never really in doubt as the Red Hawks never trailed in the game taking out the Wolves 103-64.
The Red Hawks opened the game on fire and led 22-5 after just five minutes. Nichole Jones was the spearhead of the Red Hawk offense in the first half; she benefited from some great defense, which set her up for some easy layup opportunities. The Red Hawks stretched their lead to as many as 30 points in the half. Simpson led 62-32 at halftime. Jones had 16 points in the half, and the Red Hawks would shot 56 percent from the field.
The second half was more of the same. The Red Hawks continued to force turnovers and capitalized on the other end. They led by as many as 44 in the half before finishing the game with a 39-point lead (103-64). The Wolves turned the ball over 38 times in the game, including 28 steals from the Red Hawks. On the other hand, the Red Hawks only turned it over 12 times and had assists on 28 of their baskets.
In a night in which every Red Hawk would score at least three points, it was Jones who led the pack with 18. Five other Red Hawks scored double figures including Bekah Eppler with 15, Ayana MacShate with 12, Charissa Murakami with 12, Kaity Hahn with 11 and Tiffany Aaserude with 10. Also having a great game was Kaitlin Weckerle with seven points and three assists off of the bench.
The Red Hawks record now improves to 8-15. They look to improve their record further on Monday, Feb. 6 when they will host the Wolves again at 4 p.m.
