Lady Red Hawks lose home opener to OIT

REDDING, Ore. - The Lady Red Hawks soccer team were in action on Wednesday, Sept. 5, against the Owls from Oregon Tech in their first home game of the year. Unfortunately for the Red Hawks, the Owls were able to come away with the 5-1 victory.
In the first half, both teams were able to create chances, but neither team could get the breakthrough they wanted. The half ended with the teams in a 0-0 deadlock.
The second half started out great for the Owls. One minute into the half, Rebekah Nisbet scored a goal from 15 yards out off a Meghan Drost assist to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The Owls scored three more in a row. Hayley Smith scored off a great shot from 20 yards out, Drost added a goal to her assist in the 67th minute, and Hanna Gil made it 4-0 in the 72nd minute. Chelsea Cormack got the Red Hawks on the board in the 78th minute, when she found herself open in the box and smartly finished her chance off in the side netting to make it 4-1. The Owls wrapped up the scoring in the 82nd minute, when Smith added another goal to her impressive night to give the Owls the 5-1 win.
The Red Hawks now drop to 0-3 on the season. They will be in action on Thursday, Sept. 6, when they will host the Raiders from Southern Oregon University. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
