Red Hawks lose first home dual to Great Falls

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks competed in their inaugural home event on Thursday, Nov. 15, when they hosted a dual against the Argos from the University of Great Falls. The Argos proved to be a though first opponent for the Red Hawks, as they secured a 37-6 victory in the dual.

The Argos got things off to a strong start in the 125 pound category when an Argo junior defeated a Red Hawk freshman by technical fall 22-5, giving the Argos an early 5-0 lead.

At 133 pounds, the Red Hawks took the lead when Red Hawk freshman Chan Chao won by forfeit giving the Red Hawks a 6-5 lead.

At 141 pounds, Argos sophomore Ryan Martin defeated Red Hawk sophomore Efren Rodriguez 13-6 by decision to give the Argos back the lead at 8-6.

At 149 pounds, Argos senior Mike Vassar returned to his hometown of Redding to defeat Red Hawks junior Marco Fratantoni 13-6 by decision to extend the Argo lead to 11-6.

In the 157 weight class, Argos senior Ryan Leonard defeated Red Hawks junior Anthony Vega 3-1 to add three more points to the Argo total.

At 165 pounds, Argos sophomore Shawn Lau won in a forfeit to extend the Argo lead to 20-6.

In the 174 weight class, Great Falls sophomore Brock Picard defeated Red Hawk freshman Matthew Tsarnas 8-5 by decision.

The Argos lead grew to 29-6, when their sophomore Adam Wolfe won by forfeit in the 184 weight category.

In the 197 weight class, Argos freshman Dylan Lemery defeated a Red Hawk freshman by technical fall, 22-7.

In the final match of the night, Argos senior Sears Tiernnan defeated Red Hawk freshman Austin Lobsinger in the 285 weight class 5-2 by decision to cap off the Argos’ 37-6 victory.
