Beamon, Tsarnas, and Vega excel at Reno Tournament of Champions

RENO, Nevada. - The first year Simpson University men's wrestling program competed in the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, Dec. 16. The Red Hawks took on the big boys and came away with some great experiences and a challenge to work harder for Nationals in March. The Reno TOC featured 14 NCAA Division I teams from around the nation, along with some highly ranked Division II and NAIA teams.
The young Red Hawks drew 22 out of 24 matches against Division I teams. Freshman Brady Beamon from San Diego, Calif., was 2-2 on the day, with a pin over NAIA powerhouse Southern Oregon and a 6-2 victory over Division I West Virginia. Freshman Matthew Tsarnas from Healdsburg, Calif., had an impressive come-from-behind 6-4 win over his West Virginia opponent. Junior Anthony Vega from Olivehurst, Calif., fought off a strong first round attack against his Stanford opponent and went on to an impressive 9-1 major decision.
The Red Hawk wrestlers will take on the San Francisco State University Gators at home on Thursday, Jan. 3.
