Thacker, Varsek, Corella, and Collins earn all-conference honors

REDDING, Calif. - Simpson University’s men’s basketball team had four players earn all-conference honors for their outstanding play in the 2013 season. Freshman Dalton Thacker earned Freshman of the Year and first team honors. Junior Guy Varsek was also earned first team honors. Sophomore Ian Corella was named to the second team, and senior Jordan Collins received honorable mention honors.

California Pacific Conference regular season champion William Jessup University placed two players on the all-conference first team and two Warriors won two of the conference's most illustrious awards, Commissioner Don Ott announced on Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Led by Newcomer of the Year Keenan Prince, the Warriors were also represented on the first team by senior Jordan Wilson. CSU Maritime, Menlo and Simpson had two players on the first team. The Keelhaulers placed senior Keven Campbell and junior Anthony Simi on the team; the Oaks placed senior ChaRunn Jones and junior Keith Bowman on the team; and the Red Hawks placed Varsek and Thacker on the first team. Pacific Union's Will Bell made the team along with California Pacific Conference Player of the Year Aki Chambers from UC Merced. Jaquai Wiley of CSU Maritime Academy was selected as the conference's Defender of the Year. Jeff Bussell of William Jessup was named Coach of the Year.

California Pacific Conference Commissioner Don Ott said, "I congratulate these student-athletes on a fine and memorable season. They've distinguished themselves, their teams, their institutions, and the conference with an ever-increasing level of sportsmanship and competition."
