Red Hawks fall to Humboldt State

ARCATA, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s basketball team traveled to Arcata, Calif., to take on the Humboldt State University Lumberjacks on Saturday, Nov. 30. The Lumberjacks defeated the Red Hawks 105-92.

In the first half, the Red Hawks started out strong and exchanged baskets with Humboldt State for the first seven minutes. Going on a 7-0 run, The Red Hawks went on a 7-0 run and took the 16-15 lead. They then allowed a 10-0 run toward the end, and found themselves down 46-41 at halftime. Ian Corella (10 points), Shaquille Jones (11 points) and Anthony Williams (13 points) scored 34 of the Red Hawks’ 41 first half points.

In the second half, the Lumberjacks began to pull away and gained a 14-point lead. Williams made two free throws to bring the Red Hawks within nine (69-60), and down the stretch a Dalton Thacker three-pointer made the score 77-73 with eight minutes left. But with a quick tempo from the Lumberjacks, Simpson could not close the gap and lost 105-92.

Williams finished the game with 26 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Corella had 22 points, and Jones had 20 points. Jonnie Washburn and Thacker each ended the night with 10 points apiece.

The Red Hawks will prepare for their next game on Monday, Dec. 2 against Southern Oregon University at 6 p.m. Simpson lost 128-95 to the Raiders when the teams met earlier this season on Monday, Nov. 4.
