Simpson wins on the road against PUC

ANGWIN, Calif. - Simpson University men's basketball team earned a win on the road against the Pioneers from Pacific Union College on Thursday, Jan. 24. It was a tough game for both teams, but the Red Hawks found themselves with the 11-point victory at the end of the game (78-67).
At the end of the first half, the Red Hawks led by five points. They shot 45 percent from the field, and the Pioneers only shot 29 percent from the field in the half. Trevor Nogueira’s 14 first half points kept the Pioneers in the game. He went 5-of-7 from the field, including going 4-of-6 from the three-point line. Dalton Thacker and Guy Varsek both had nine points in the half for the Red Hawks.
In the second half, the Pioneer raised their shooting percentage, making 40 percent of their shots in the half. The Red Hawks also raised their percentage, converting 50 percent of their shots in the half. Thacker was the high scorer in the half, adding 14 points to his total from the first half. Will Bell was the high scorer for the Pioneers with 11 points.
Nogueira led the Pioneers with 14 points. Marcus Carter added 13 points in the loss.
Up next for the Red Hawks will be a trip to Vallejo, Calif., to take on the Keelhaulers from CSU Maritime on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m.
