Red Hawks lose at home to Menlo
Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s soccer team was in action on Wednesday, Oct. 30, when they hosted the Menlo College Oaks. The game was a challenge for the Red Hawks because they had to play with no substitutes. The Oaks defeated Simpson 4-0.
The Oaks scored in the seventh minute, when Christian Abrego headed home a good effort off the inside of the post and in to make it 1-0 Menlo. They scored again in the 20th minute, when Calvyn Araujo finished off a beautifully crafted chance to make the lead 2-0.
In the second half, Andrew Cota scored the Oaks’ third goal, when his shot from 35-yards out swerved and changed directions several times in the air and found its way past Red Hawk goal keeper Justin Webb. Ryan Onizuka scored in the 65th minute to give Menlo the 4-0 victory.
The Red Hawks will next be in action on Friday, Nov. 1, when they make their last road trip of the year traveling to Angwin, Calif., to take on the Pioneers from Pacific Union College.
