Simpson starts conference play with loss to Soka
Simpson University Sports News
REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks men's soccer team was in action on Sunday, Aug. 25, when they hosted California Pacific Conference foe Soka University. Unfortunately, the Red Hawks were handed their second loss of the season by dropping the game 2-0.
The Lions got on the board in the 15th minute, when after an initial save from Justin Webb, the rebound fell to Soka forward Akira Takahata, who finished off the chance to make it 1-0 Lions. The Lions controlled the rest of the half, and the Red Hawks had to count themselves fortunate that they only trailed by the one at the break.
In the second half, the Red Hawks played better, but they still couldn't find the breakthrough they needed. Webb was outstanding in the goal, making a total of 13 saves on the day and keeping his team in the game. The Lions put the game out of reach in the 89th minute, when Mateo Barbiero's shot found the bottom corner of the goal to make it 2-0 Soka.
The Red Hawks now look ahead to Wednesday, Aug. 28, when they will take on the Flames from Bethesda University of California at 7 p.m. The game will be held at the Redding Soccer Park.
