Lobsinger name Male Athlete of the Winter by local paper

REDDING, Calif. - Freshman wrestler Austin Lobsinger from Anderson, Calif., was a crucial element in the Simpson University’s inaugural wrestling season. Winning majority of his matches and earning All-American honors at the NAIA national tournament, it was no surprise that Lobsinger earned the Redding Record Searchlight’s first Male Athlete of the Winter award.
Coming into the 2012-213 season as a two-time North Section Champion winner and a two-time CIF state runner up in high school, Lobsinger only had two expectations for himself in his collegiate career: to improve his technique in the heavyweight class and to win at least half of his matches. Lobsinger exceeded those expectations.
With memories of his first collegiate year of wrestling fresh in his mind, Lobsinger reminisced on his All-American match, where he beat an opponent he had lost to all year, and thanked his coach and teammates for his successful season.
“My coach helped me learn how to adjust to the new weight and the college level of wrestling,” said Lobsinger. “He supported me all the way to nationals; also my teammates did the same. I couldn't have gone this far without them.”
Having such a successful season and winning the Redding Male Athlete of the Winter humbled Lobsinger, and he was nothing but grateful.
“It was a great honor that I was chosen,” he said. “I couldn't have done it without all my supporters and I was happy and privileged to represent Simpson at nationals. I wanted to make my hometown proud.”
