Simpson loses home dual to Southern Oregon

REDDING, Calif. - The Red Hawks men’s wrestling team participated in their final home dual of the year on Thursday, Jan. 31, when they hosted the Raiders from Southern Oregon University. It was the first meeting between these schools in wrestling, and the Raiders came out on top, winning 37-12.
The Raiders opened the night with a six-point lead, as Taylor Johnson won by forfeit in the 197 weight class.
At 285, Austin Lobsinger cut the lead to 6-3 in half for the Red Hawks, when he defeated Bubba Owens of the Raiders by decision 5-2.
At 125, Mitchell Lofstedt earned a win by technical fall over Hayden Zimmerman of the Red Hawks.
At 133, Prescott Garner earned the win by fall over Chan Chao, making the overall score 17-3 Raiders.
At 141, Red Hawks junior Anthony Vega defeated Justin Eldred by fall to make the score 17-9.
Then the Raiders then rallied to score the next 14 points, starting with the 149 weight class when Trinity Castner beat Marco Fratantoni by decision (13-10).
At 157, Dalton Urrutia defeated Richard Ortiz by technical fall (17-0).
Bryson Gutches win for the Raiders by forfeit to make the overall score 31-9.
Then Matthew Tsarnas secured three points for the Red Hawks at the 174 weight class, when he defeated Reed Tennyson by decision (6-2).
In the final matchup of the night Tyler Thomas defeat Red Hawk Christian White by fall in the 184 weight class, securing the Raiders 37-12 win over the Red Hawks.
