Simpson earns first conference victory with win over rival

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s volleyball team traveled to Rocklin, Calif., to take on conference rival William Jessup University on Thursday, Oct. 10. The Red Hawks beat the Warriors in three sets (25-23, 25-19,25-17).
In the first set, the Red Hawks found themselves behind William Jessup almost the entire set, with the Warriors leading by as many as five. Kills from Audrey Green and Jessica Lombardi allowed Simpson to tie the game at 21-21. The Red Hawks won 25-23 from a service ace by Lauren Godinet.
In the second set, the Red Hawks and the Warriors tied 15 times. William Jessup started strong by getting the first two points of the set, but the Red Hawks ended the game stronger than they started. In the last five points of the set, Simpson had kills from Green, Katelynne Cavalli, and setter Kelly Tycksen to win 25-19.
In the final set, both teams tied nine times, but the Red Hawks pulled away after the last tie at 9-9. Simpson gained a nine-point lead to finish out the match with a 25-17 win.
The Red Hawks are preparing for their next game on the road against UC Merced on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
