Simpson dominates game against William Jessup

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s volleyball team hosted the William Jessup University Warriors on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The Red Hawks won the game in three straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-18).

In the first set, the Red Hawks got an early 4-0 lead before the Warriors tied the game at 4-4. With big momentum kills from Audrey Green, Jessica Lombardi, and Katelynn Cavalli, the Warriors were forced to take a re-focusing timeout with the score 13-9. The Red Hawks used a second William Jessup timeout to their advantage to win the set 25-16.

In the second set, Simpson again started with an early 4-0 lead, and the Warriors once again tie the game again at 7-7. With big kills from Victoria Furze and Kelly Tycksen, the Red Hawks took the 9-7 lead. The Red Hawks continued to increase their lead, forcing William Jessup to call a timeout at 17-9. Simpson allowed seven more points before winning the set 25-16.

The Red Hawks got off to a slower start in the final set, as Coach Thomas Kirst was able to use more of his players. Junior Michelle Aleong led the Red Hawks on a run, serving 13 times in a row with four aces. Freshmen Aimee Belleville and Brittany Mattingly had kills to end the third set, 25-18.

Green led the Red Hawks with 12 kills and 11 digs; Aleong led with four service aces; and Tycksen led with 18 assists.

The Red Hawks prepare to host UC Merced at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.
