Red Hawks lose nail bitter to Holy Names

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team to Oakland, Calif., to play an exhibition game against the Holy Names University Hawks on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The Red Hawks lost 67-66.
In the first half, the Red Hawks started out in a 3-2 zone defense and allowed two three-point shots in the first two minutes of the game. But Simpson quickly adjusted to Holy Names’ outside shooters and began their own run. Led by their defense, the Red Hawks forced 13 turnovers and led 40-29 at halftime.
In the second half, the Red Hawks became content with the lead, lacking in aggression, and allowed the Hawks back in the game. Exchanging baskets, the Red Hawks found themselves down by five with one minute left. With clutch lay-ups from Esther Wofford and Tiffany Aaserude in the last seconds, the Red Hawks found themselves down by one with six seconds to go and possession of the ball. The Red Hawks missed their final shot of the game and lost 67-66.
The Red Hawks were led by Nichole Jones’16 points and seven steals.
Simpson will prepare for a two-game Oregon road trip. They play Western Oregon University on Saturday, Dec. 21, and George Fox University on Sunday, Dec. 22.
