Red Hawks beat New Hope on day one of Hoops Classic

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team hosted the TCSA/DAP Hoops Classic Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 23 and Sunday, Nov. 24. They won first game 74-47on day one of the tournament against New Hope Christian College.

In the first half, the Red Hawks started off slow, and New Hope forced nine turnovers. Simpson also struggled to stop the Deacons’ Lei Lolohea, who had 13 points in the first half. The Red Hawk went on a short run before going into the half up 36-30.

In the second half, the Red Hawks quickly began to pull away, which allowed all 11 players suited up to see minutes. Hannah Saylor played her first game coming off of an MCL injury, scoring her first 3-pointer of the season.

The Red Hawks were led by Nichole Jones, who had 17 and eight steals, Esther Wofford, who had 13 and four steals, and Kaity Hahn, who had 10 points and three assists.

Simpson will look for another win in day two of the tournament against San Diego Christian College on Sunday, Nov. 24th at 7 p.m.
