Red Hawks edge out Boxers by three

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team traveled to Forest Grove, Ore., to play the Pacific University Boxers on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The Red Hawks came away with the 67-64 victory.
In the first half, the Red Hawks played an even half with the Boxers. Pacific University led 12-5, before Simpson began to slowly climb back. The Red Hawks would find themselves within one with a three-pointer from Karley Menez. The teams traded free throws toward the end of the half, and the Red Hawks themselves up 27-26 at halftime.
Simpson came out strong in the second half by taking a four-point lead. The teams exchanged baskets throughout the half, and the Boxers gained their last lead of the game with 2:47 left in the half. Due to big plays by freshman Esther Wofford, the Red Hawks ended the game with a 67-64 victory.
The Red Hawks were led by Madison Cox, who had her first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds and 11 points. Nichole Jones ended the night with 15 points. Tiffany Aaserude had 12 points, and Wofford finished with 10 points.
Simpson enters the month of December with a 6-5 winning record. They are preparing for their match-up against Vanguard University on Friday, December 13 in Costa Mesa, Calif. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
