Red Hawks defeat Eagles on day one of Simpson Classic

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team hosted the Simpson Classic on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16. They earned their first victory of the tournament against the Northwest University Eagles. The Red Hawks won 70-58.

In the first half, the Red Hawks went an 8-0 run to take a 15-4 lead early in the game. With a big three from senior Tiffany Aaserude, the Red Hawks maintained a 35-28 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Simpson capitalized on Northwest’s foul trouble by making free throws and continuing to attack the Eagles’ defense. Simpson maintained the lead and managed to force 25 turnovers, resulting in a 70-58 victory.

The Red Hawks were led offensively by Nichole Jones, who had 19 points, with help from Aaserude, who had 11. Bianca Padilla had four assists and three steals.

Simpson will look to prepare for the second day of the Simpson Classic against No. 18 Eastern Oregon University at 7:30 p.m on Saturday, Nov. 16.
