Lady Red Hawks win first away game

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Simpson University women’s basketball team traveled to Portland, Ore., to play their first away game of the season against Warner Pacific College on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Red Hawks won 71-67.

The Red Hawks and the Knights battled in the first half. The Red Hawks found themselves down by as many as 14 points due to foul trouble and turnovers. Simpson was able to get within two (38-36) going into halftime with big drives into the paint and made free throws.

In the second half, the Knights switched from man-to-man defense to a 2-3 zone defense in order to stop the Red Hawks from attacking the basket. The Red Hawks adjusted to the defensive change by shooting 75 percent from the 3-point line. Esther Wofford, Tiffany Aaserude, Kaity Hahn, and Bianca Padilla all made 3-pointers to help Simpson pull away and win 71-67.

The Red Hawks were led offensively by Nichole Jones who had 18 points. Hahn and Wofford each had 11. Katie Lenik and Kayla Shubin helped defensively by getting seven rebounds each.

The Red Hawks will look to get a win against Concordia University on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.
