Slow start hurts Simpson against Westmont

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Red Hawks women's basketball team on Friday, Jan. 4, against the Warriors from Westmont College at Murchison Gymnasium. The Warriors led from wire to wire, handing the Red Hawks a 77-41 loss.

The Warriors began the game on a 20-6 run. The run was started by an Ester Lee 3-pointer and was capped off by a Lee 3-pointer with 13:35 to play in the half. The Warriors continued to increase their lead throughout the half and took a 30-point lead into the break (47-17). The Red Hawks only managed to make 18.2 percent of their shots in the half compared to the Warriors 45 percent.

The Warriors continued their hot shooting and opened their largest lead of the game at 64-22 with 12:05 to play in the game. The Warriors then coasted to a 36-point win (77-41).

The Warriors were led by Tugce Canitez, who had 15 points and 17 rebounds. Four other Warriors were in double figures, including Kelsie Sampson with 14, Lee with 13, Jillian Wilber with 12 and Celina Gougis with 10.

Tiffany Aaserude was the only player in double figures for the Red Hawks with 10 points. Madison Cox and Kaity Hahn both added eight points.
