Simpson University Sports News
ATHERTON, Calif. - The Simpson University women's soccer team took on the Oaks from Menlo College on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Atherton, Calif. The game was exciting with a lot of goals, but the Red Hawks found themselves on the losing end of a 6-2 scoreline.
In the first half, Natalie Goens came close to scoring in the fourth minute off a Kaylee Lommori corner kick, but the Oak defense was able to clear the ball. The Red Hawks regained momentum and scored in the ninth minute. Rebecca Echols was fouled setting up a long free kick which Brittany Garrison placed in the roof of the net to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Oaks responded three minutes later when Victoria Piazza was able to score off a poorly cleared ball. Piazza scored her second goal of the game off a penalty kick to give Menlo the 2-1 lead. In the 32nd minute, the Oaks’ Raquel DeJesus netted a goal to make it 3-1 Menlo at the half.
The Red Hawks scored two minutes after the start of the second half, when Lommori got past her defender and play a great cross to Goens, who finished a great goal to bring the Red Hawks back within one. Unfortunately for the Red Hawks, the Oaks finished the half with three unanswered goals from Tiare Fuentes in the 50th minute and two from Danielle McCarthy in the 63rd and 74th minute.
