de Hoop’s hat-trick propels Lady Red Hawks to first win of the season

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Simpson University women's soccer team traveled to take on the Cyclones from Mills College on Wednesday, Sept. 18, with hopes of earning their first win of the season. The Red Hawks dominated the game and secured a 5-0 victory.
The Red Hawks were on the board early, when Brittany Garrison played Marijke de Hoop in behind the Cyclone defense and de Hoop finished off her chance to make it 1-0 Red Hawks in the fifth minute. After an outstanding corner kick from Kaylee Lommori was played into the box, Garrison was the first to react and she headed home the Red Hawks’ second goal of the game in the 25th minute. The Red Hawks continued to pressure the Cyclones, but goalkeeper Tayla Muise made eight saves to keep it 2-0 at the half.
In the second half, the Red Hawks got back on the score sheet in the 59th minute when Nicole Goens made a long-range shot to make it 3-0. The Red Hawks scored a minute late, when de Hoop scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Leah O'Halloran. The Red Hawks finished off their scoring in the 64th minute, when Lommori again sent a great cross into the box and de Hoop scored her third goal of the game to complete her hat-trick. The Red Hawks finished out the game with the 5-0 victory.
The Red Hawks will look to build on this success as they take on the same Mills College team in their next match up on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
