Lady Red Hawks fall to OIT

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Simpson University women's soccer team was on the road on Saturday, Sept.14, looking for their first win on the season against the Owls from Oregon Tech. Unfortunately, the Owls handed the Red Hawks a 4-0 loss.
The Owls started the game off strong and reaped the benefits of their strong start when Jackie Gardner scored the opening goal of the match in the 11th minute off an outstanding cross from Kayla Campbell. The Red Hawks regrouped and pressured the Owl goal. Striker Marijke de Hoop and Chelsea Cormack both had shots that were saved by Owl goalkeeper Rebekah Matteri. Red Hawk goalkeeper Natasha Webb had an outstanding half, keeping the Red Hawks in the match with 10 saves in the first half.
In the second half, the Owls quickly added to their lead in the 50th minute, when Chrishtianna Newell found the back of the net off an assist from Alisha Miyashiro. The Owls scored two more times in a two minute span. Gardner scored her second goal of the game in the 61st minute, and Rebekah Nisbet scored an outstanding solo goal in the 63rd minute to finish off the scoring. The Owls won 4-0. Webb finished the game with 15 saves.
The Red Hawks will look to rebound on Wednesday, Sept. 18, when they travel to Oakland, Calif., to take on the Cyclones from Mills College at 3 p.m.
