Then in the same inning, Nicole Hutchins came up to bat with runners on base. She singled down the right field line to score Cherie DeJesus to tie the game up at 2-2.
The Lancers brought in Belinda Renne during the inning in relief. She and Rodriguez were both locked in from the fifth inning through the eighth, only allowing two hits each over that span of the game. The Red Hawks had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the eighth, when Marisa Marmolejo tried and score on a caught fly ball, but she was thrown out by a great throw from Lancer left fielder Jordan Mowatt.
Rodriguez sat the Lancers down in order in the top of the ninth, setting up another opportunity for the Red Hawks to win in the bottom half of the frame. Morgan Davis led off the inning by reaching base on an error. Noel Montes followed that up with a single. Davis moved over to third base on a fielder’s choice, brining Wall back to the plate. Renne intentionally walked Wall to load the bases, bringing up DeJesus. DeJesus got the ball in play deep enough to bring in Davis to seal the win 3-2 in walk-off fashion.
