Simpson shuts out Biola for second time in NAIA tourney

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team played No. 6 Biola University for the second time this weekend on Saturday, April 27, in the NAIA West Regional Tournament. The Lady Red Hawks defeated Biola 1-0. Simpson’s first win against Biola in tournament play was on Friday, April 27, when the Red Hawks shut the Eagles out 5-0.

Sophomore Aleisha Brown scored the game-winning and only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning off a Noel Montes single to left field. Freshman Carlye Avey pitched a complete game, allowing three hits and no runs and striking out six batters.

Simpson advances to the championship game against No. 1 Concordia University-Irvine. The Red Hawks lost to the Eagles 8-0 in tournament play on Friday, April 27. Simpson will have to defeat Concordia-Irvine twice today to win the NAIA West Regional Tournament. If they lose the first game, the Eagles will win and advance to the NAIA National Tournament.
