Red Hawks go 0-2 on day one of Northwest Open

CLACKAMAS, Ore. - The Simpson University women's softball team in action on Friday, Feb. 15, in the Northwest Cup hosted by Corban University in Clackamas, Ore. In game one, the Red Hawks faced the Yotes from the College of Idaho, and they finished the night with a game against the Cavaliers from Concordia University. The Red Hawks lost both games on the day, taking a 3-1 loss against the Yotes and then a 4-0 loss to the Cavaliers.
In game one, the Red Hawks started Carlye Avey against Nickayla Skinner for the Yotes. Both pitchers started out strong throwing up zeros for the first three innings. The Red Hawks got the breakthrough in the top of the fourth when Kara Wall hit a solo home run to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Red Hawks held that lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, when the Yotes finally got to Avey by scoring three runs. The Yotes won 3-1.
Avey was hit with the loss. She went six innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits with four strike-outs. Skinner got the win, going seven innings and allowing just four hits and one run with 10 strike-outs.
In game two, the Red Hawks sent Hayley Rodriguez to the mound to take on Cavaliers pitcher Orvella shut the Red Hawks down, going the full seven innings and only allowing three hits and no runs. Concordia score one run in the second, third, fourth, and seventh innings to win 4-0. Rodriguez got the loss, allowing 13 hits and four runs (two earned) in seven innings of work.
