Red Hawks split series with Owls

SALEM, Ore. - After a quick road trip to Oregon, the Simpson University women's softball team was back home for a two game series against the Owls from Oregon Tech on Sunday, March 3. The teams split the series, with game one going to the Owls 4-3 and game two going to the Red Hawks 4-0.
Hayley Rodriguez started game one for the Red Hawks against Taylor Schmidt for the Owls. The Owls scored in the top of the first, when Shauna Collins and Alyssa Davis scored. The Owls doubled their lead in the fourth inning when Kayla Prock doubled to score Melissa Logan and Ashley Sfetku. The Red Hawks cut the Owl lead in half in the fifth inning, when Marisa Marmolejo scored after Chelsea Espinosa grounded out and when Nicole Hutchins singled up the middle to score Cherie DeJesus. The Red Hawks scored again in the bottom of the sixth, when Chelsea Dunn score on a Marmolejo ground out. It would be just too little, as the Owls held on for the 4-3 win.
Rodriguez got the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits in seven innings. Schmidt earned the win for the Owls, allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings. Dunn finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In game two, the Red Hawks would send Emily Stokes out to pitch against Rylee Carleton for the Owls. The Red Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, when Aleisha Brown doubled down the left field line to score Morgan Davis. Dunn then tripled to deep right-center field, scoring Brown. Dunn scored when Jodie Richards grounded out to second. Simpson added another run in the fifth, when DeJesus singled to score Dunn to make it 4-0 Red Hawks.
Stokes completed her second complete shutout in two days to earn the win, allowing just four hits and striking out eight. Carleton was hit with the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits in five innings of work.
