Simpson loses final two conference games to William Jessup

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team traveled to Rocklin, Calif., for a doubleheader against conference rival William Jessup University on Friday, April 19. The Warriors swept the Red Hawks, winning game one 4-3 and game two 5-3.

In the first game, Jessup came out strong by scoring one run in the first inning and two runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. In the fourth inning, the Red Hawks scored two runs to cut the Warriors’ lead to 3-2. The Red Hawks tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh, but William Jessup answered with the winning run (4-3) in the bottom of the inning.

Nicole Hutchins, Marisa Marmolejo, and Chelsea Dunn each scored for the Red Hawks. Noel Montes and Ryan Norton each had an RBI.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Red Hawks scored one run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. William Jessup tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third. The game remained tied until the fourth inning, when Simpson scored one run and William Jessup scored two runs. Both teams scored the same in the sixth inning to bring the final score to 5-3 in favor of the Warriors.

Simpson’s runs were scored by catcher Kara Wall and pinch runner Chasteena Determan. Wall had one RBI and Marmolejo had two. Shortstop Morgan Davis and Marmolejo had four defensive assists each.

The Red Hawks will host one more doubleheader against Sam Marcos on Sunday, April 21.
