Solid pitching propels Simpson to victory over William Jessup

Simpson University Sports News

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University women's softball team hosted a doubleheader against the William Jessup University Warriors on Saturday, March 23. Both games were hard-fought, but the Lady Red Hawks were able to come away with two 3-2 victories. Despite the low scores, these wins were huge for the Red Hawks against their Cal Pac rival.

In game one, both teams started off slow, and neither could string together an offensive surge. Red Hawk freshman Emily Stokes pitched a complete game, allowing two runs and striking out four. The turning point for Simpson was when sophomore Jodie Richards hit a solo home run over the center field fence. This run gave the Red Hawks the momentum they needed to close the game out 3-2.

In game two, senior Hayley Rodriguez pitched a great complete game and struck out seven of the visiting Warriors. Offensively, Simpson freshman Kara Wall and William Jessup senior Alannah Johns each hit one home run a piece. Even though the Warriors got an additional run, the Red Hawks took game two 3-2.

Simpson will travel to Riverside, Calif., to face La Sierra in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 24.
