Red Hawks fall to Antelope Valley

REDDING, Calif. - The Simpson University men's baseball team hosted the University of Antelope Valley on Friday, Feb. 21 in a double header resulting in a 15-6 loss and an 8-1 loss.

In the first game, the Red Hawks started strong by scoring five runs in the first inning. After several walks and an error from Antelope Valley to start the game, the bases were loaded when Elden Whisman came up to bat. With a single to right field, the first run was scored by Harold Adams. With four more runs following quickly after, the Red Hawks to an early 5-0 lead.

Antelope Valley was quick to answer and they took a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, they scored two more runs before the Red Hawks scored their final run of the game off a wild throw in the fifth inning. Antelope Valley scored four more runs in the seventh inning and three runs in the eighth before winning the game 15-6.

Designated hitter Kurtice Huffman led the Red Hawks with two RBIs, and Ryan Lombardi received the loss. Andrew Hatfield, Joshua Gilmore and Whisman also pitched in the game.

In game two, the Red Hawks lost an 8-1. Daniel Mills scored the only run for Simpson in the first inning off a stolen base. Humberto Solorio took the loss.

The Red Hawks will prepare for their next game on Saturday, Feb. 22, as the host the Holy Names University Hawks at 3 p.m.
