Red Hawks lose on the road to Coyotes

CALDWELL, Idaho. - The Simpson University men's baseball team traveled to Caldwell, Idaho, to compete against the College of Idaho Coyotes on Sunday, March 30 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. resulting in a 3-0 loss and a 6-4 loss.
After a scoreless three innings from both teams, the Coyotes ended the drought with a double and a score in the bottom of the fourth inning. Unable to answer back, the Red Hawks allowed two more runs, one in the seventh inning and one in the eighth before losing 3-0.
Luke Tessman led the Red Hawks with have assists, and Ryan Lombardi went 2-for-4 from the plate. Garrett Greenhaw received the loss for the Red Hawks, pitching eight innings with two earned runs, four strikeouts and 29 at bats.
In the second game, Simpson took a 1-0 lead in the third inning off Lombardi’s RBI single. College of Idaho answered back by regaining the lead in the bottom of the third to make the score 2-1.
In the fifth inning, Lombardi tied the game for the Red Hawks with a sacrifice fly, taking the lead on an Elden Whisman RBI single. The Coyotes countered in the seventh by scoring three runs on two Simpson errors to take a 5-3 lead. With one more run from the Red Hawks and one more run from the Coyotes, College of Idaho earned the 6-4 win.
Lombardi went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the loss for Simpson. Tessman and Daniel Mills each had two runs for the Red Hawks, with both also going 2-for-4 from the plate. Alex Lee received the loss with nine at bats and two earned runs.
Simpson will play in another doubleheader against the College of Idaho at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, March 31.
