Simpson loses series to Menlo

MENLO PARK, Calif. - The Simpson University men's baseball team traveled to Menlo Park, Calif., to compete against the Menlo College Oaks on Saturday, April 5 at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. resulting in a 5-4 loss and a 12-6 loss.
In game one, Menlo scored the first run in the first inning, but the Red Hawks answered back in the third inning by scoring two runs. On a misplayed grounder by the Oaks, Aaron Curfman scored the first run for the Red Hawks. Daniel Mills scored the second run for Simpson to take the lead 2-1 in the third.
Menlo tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth inning, but the Red Hawks took the lead 4-3 in the top of the ninth, when Lombardi’s single allowed Curfman to score. But Menlo answered back with two runs in the bottom of the ninth to win 5-4.
Lombardi earned the only two RBIs of the game, going 2-for-4 from the plate. Elden Whisman earned seven putouts from the catcher’s position, and Harold Adams also went .500 from the plate. Cameron Imhoff received the loss with 33 at bats, seven strikeouts, and five earned runs. Alex Lee finished out the game with four at bats and no runs.
In game two, the Red Hawks gained a 6-5 in the seventh inning, but the Red Hawks gave up the lead by allowing seven runs to lose 12-6.
Luke Tessman led with two RBIs and went 2-for-5 from the plate. Lombardi started the game pitching, but Andrew Hatfield received the loss. Humberto Solorio finished the game with five at bats and three earned runs.
Simpson will prepare for their final weekend of home games on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13 against Lewis-Clark State University.
