Owls shut down Red Hawks

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Simpson University men's baseball team to Klamath Falls, Ore, to compete in a doubleheader against the Oregon Institute of Technology Owls on Sunday, March 16. The Red Hawks lost game one 3-2 and game two 15-2.
In the first game, OIT quickly got on the board by scoring two runs in the first inning and one in the second to take the 3-0 lead. The Red Hawks held off the Owls from scoring again with aggressive defense and Cameron Imhoff’s solid pitching. Simpson made the game interesting in the ninth inning. With Walker Gemmill on base by a hit-by-pitch, Dylan Mumford stepped up to the plate and hit a homerun to left field, making it a 3-2 game. After a single by Red Hawks the bases became loaded, but a ground out ended the game.
Kurtice Huffman went 2-for-3 from the plate, and Aaron Curfman had three assists. Garrett Greeenhaw received the loss for the Red Hawks, pitching 18 at bats and two strikeouts and giving up three earned runs. Imhoff followed in relief, pitching 14 at bats and three strikeouts. Alex Lee finished the game, pitching four at bats with one strikeout.
In the second game, OIT scored 11 runs before the Red Hawks would get themselves on the board. Mumford earned Simpson’s only RBI by sending George Ceccheti home to make the game 11-1. The Owls scored four more runs before the Red Hawks scored their second and final run of the game, losing 15-2.
Humberto Solorio received the loss, pitching 14 at bats and giving up six earned runs. Ryan Lombardi pitched 14 at bats with one strikeout and five earned runs. Joshua Gilmore ended the game, facing eight batters and allowing four earned runs.
Simpson will prepare for their next set of games against Concordia University at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 at Tiger Field in Redding, Calif.
