Red Hawks Go 1-1 at Frank Dye Classic

VALLEJO, Calif. - The Simpson University men’s basketball team competed in Cal State Maritime’s Frank Dye Classic on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. They played Warner Pacific College and Multnomah University.
On Friday, Oct.31, the Red Hawks faced Cascade Conference member Warner Pacific College. The Knights jumped out to an 11-point lead at halftime. In the second half, the Knights kept control of the game by maintaining a double-digit lead and winning 78-57. Seniors Dalton Thacker and Ian Corella both scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Senior Jonnie Washburn contributed nine points.
In game two on Nov. 1, Simpson faced Multnomah University. The Red Hawks jumped on the Lions early with a 53-36 halftime lead. The Lions played the Red Hawks tough in the second half, only being outscored 59-54. The first half deficit was too much, and Simpson defeated Multnomah 112-90. The Red Hawks had six players in double figures. Thacker lead the team with 22 points, and senior Shaquille Jones followed with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Washburn went 4-for-7 from the three-point line and scored 18 points. Senior Anthony Williams scored 17 points, and junior Marc Kirkland and Corella both contributed 13 points.
The Red Hawks return to action on against Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore., on Nov. 4. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
