Simpson Player of the Week: Ian Corella
Simpson University Sports News
Ian Corella has been the paint power house for Simpson University's men's basketball team for the past three years. As a junior in the program, Corella has used his dominance in the key and quick turn-around post moves to help the Red Hawks during the 2013-2014 season.
Corella’s accomplishments include being named the California Pacific Conference Freshman of the Year in the 2011-2012 season and being named Second Team All-Cal Pac his freshman and sophomore years. His academic accomplishments include making the Dean's List. He is currently averaging 11.21 points and 4.29 rebounds a game.
On Saturday, Feb. 1, Corella finished with 18 points and hit the game-winning shot that gave the Red Hawks a 79-78 victory over the Menlo College Oaks.
“The entire game was a battle back and forth, and we fought the whole time,” said Corella. “I may have made the last shot of the game, which was exciting, but that was just part of how hard we worked as a team and just one of the many hustle plays that influenced the outcome of the game. We were excited to win our last big away game in the second half of season. It’s good to have momentum going into a few tough home games.”
